It’s no lie. The Internet is changing how we get our information and it is changing how we do business. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer (a Hearst Corporation publication) has published it’s last print edition and has moved to a Web only format. This will be a great test of how a well this huge shift will be for other newspapers, as the largest newspaper to go to Web only. It’s still a big experiment at this point, and will probably take a decade to figure out. At least.

Here is a clever little video from YouTube which illustrates the importance of “viral marketing.” Viral marketing is a wicked sounding little phrase which can be re-stated as “word of mouth” or “referral.” If you do great things for people, go a little out of your way, and care just a little bit more, you are certain to generate a little viral marketing of your own.

It’s undoubtedly true that the changes or progress mentioned in this post were planned long before our current economic crunch. However, they are great examples of using economic “downtime” as an opportunity for change. When businesses make big changes, like remodels, they often experience temporary closures or slowing of business while resources are channeled into the changes. If it’s a new business, hopefully the completion is just in time for the reversal of an economic slump.
